Pastor John's Daily Briefing-6/4/2020

Greetings to all my Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Each and every day we awake to the hope we have in Christ Jesus. Today brings with it an opportunity to renew our faith and to become reconciled with God and one another, to see today as a way follow Jesus in the way of mercy and forgiveness, to build bridges rather than barriers. To be sure, we bring with us into today our experiences from the past, but because of Christ we are not held hostage to those experiences and their consequences. In Christ we are given the opportunity and the power of change.

In 2 Corinthians 5:17-19, the Apostle Paul writes, "So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see everything has become new! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us."

We begin this day, as every day, in the assurance of God's redeeming and reconciling presence in Christ, with the knowledge that with this new day, we now have the opportunity to see today as one of hope and not simply a carry-over of the burdens from yesterday. The refreshment of today is that of reconciliation, entering new into a restored relationship with God and one another.

Paul adds, "See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation!" As the seconds tic away, they do so in the assurance that God has given us the way of abundant life and opportunity to think and act in accordance with and to God's gracious will revealed in Christ and now through the faithful. The love of Christ urges us on, clothed with mercy, forgiveness and hope.

Again, Paul adds, "And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work."

Thanks be to God for this day!  Pastor John
