Greetings to all the saints in Christ Jesus,
We are most fortunate to be living in these times. I say this that, in spite of all the troubles and difficulties that are present in our world, we are alive in the presence of our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In the Apostle Paul's opening of his letter to the church in Ephesus, he writes of the many spiritual blessings we have and are in the presence of Christ Jesus .He writes that we have been chosen in Christ even before the foundation of the world, chosen to be holy and blameless before God for we are adopted into his family that is filled with God's grace. All this has been accomplished in and through the redemption and forgiveness we have received in Christ Jesus, activity within God's eternal plan and witness.
Paul further connects this redemption and forgiveness of humanity to the restoration of all things in heaven and on earth. Therefore, marked with the seal of the Holy Spirit, it becomes thoroughly possible to live by hope, hope expressed in praise of God's glory and in sharing the gospel of salvation with one another.
We face many challenges in our times. And it is in such times that we must walk in faith, a faith that recognizes Christ's presence with us, a faith that enables us to feel the guidance of the Holy Spirit in us, and a faith that empowers us to live by hope with the eyes of our hearts enlightened with the wisdom and revelation of God (Ephesians 1:15-18). Paul reminds the church in Ephesus and the church of our times that our faith emerges from the presence of the risen Jesus who rules with authority in the heavenly places and reaches into the very depths of our souls in this age and into the eternal, activity that speaks to "the immeasurable greatness of his power" (1:19).
It is by and through the mercy and great love that God has for us that we are made alive together with Christ. In and with Christ, we are able to experience God's grace and gift of salvation, and through such experiences are able to walk the walk of faith and love one another as Christ loves us. All this is "in accordance with the eternal purpose that God has carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have access to God in boldness and confidence through faith in Him" (3:11-12).
May our faith in Christ Jesus direct our days in His peace! Pastor John
